It feels like only yesterday the original Motorola Droid hit the main stage and helped introduce the Android show to the world. Since then there have been many following acts that have drawn a crowd and perpetuated the Droid movement. Today we have another official member of the Droid cast and most Droid 1 or 2 users would be happy to know it is a 5 row QWERTY Droid 3. The Droid 3 continues the legacy of the slider device with a boat load of features that push the Droid into the 2011-2012 eras.

About three weeks ago the Milestone 3 came running out of left field and headed straight too China. While the international launch was not unexpected it was indeed a surprise that it launched overseas first, as if predecessors were initially launched here stateside, then moved to roam internationally. Nonetheless the Droid 3 is here. The Motorola Droid 3 is currently available under a new big red Verizon contract at $200 bucks, but this is online only at this point as the Droid 3 will not be available in retail locations until July 14th. If you’re looking to pick up a Droid 3 off contract its dual core prowess will set you back about $460. The only catch here is that to get a new Droid 3 you will have to succumb to Verizon’s new tiered data. You can check out these details at Verizon’s website but if you’re a heavy data user, welcome back to the days of worrying about sending SMS or counting minutes.

The Motorola Droid 3 is an amazing new edition to the Droid line up and sports some pretty impressive specs, let’s take a gander. The Droid 3 runs Android version 2.3 Gingerbread and is skinned with Motorola’s latest version of Blur. The qHD screen measures in at a solid 4 inches and sports a 960 x 540 pixel resolution. The overall design seems to be pretty in line with the thick Droid heritage, except it’s a bit thinner and sports a lighter frame at 2.5in x 4.9in x .5inchs and weighs in at only 5.9 ounces. Under the hood of the Droid 3 is a super powerful TI OMAP dual core 1 Ghz processor along with 512 of RAM as well as a graphics chip that can work up to 30% faster than the Droid 2. The camera on the Droid 3 gets a bump to an 8 mega pixel sensor that can record video in full 1080p HD and of course you can video chat until your heart’s content with its front facing VGA shooter. One of the most impressive and sought after updates to QWERTY lovers is the 5th row! The QWERTY keypad sports a fifth row button set that is dedicated to solely to numerals. You can also expect HDMI, DLNA, Bluetooth version 2.1, A-GPS and S-GPS as well as Wi-Fi 802.11b, 802.11g, 802.11n.
